Privilege

Privilege looks like a safe home
And handful of face masks
Hands full of sanitizers
But she does not need to work outside her home.
Privilege goes for a walk every morning
In her yard full of flowers
While she willingly ignores
Those who are starving everyday on the roads.
Privilege spends her day
Scrolling through the internet
Trying make up tutorials
And complaining how her lipstick isn’t red enough
Privilege can Netflix and Chill
Without having to worry about the buffer.
Privilege has a wallet full of money
And a closet overflowing with unused clothes
It sounds like a tummy
That never had to growl in hunger even a single day
It looks like food being thrown out
Because it wasn’t delicious enough for her praise.
Privilege does not have to go to infected hospital rooms
She doesn’t care about the kid next door
Who only wishes for his mother to be safe at home.
Privilege has soap and water
Enough to wash her hands various times a day
Privilege has a thick bed and a blanket
She doesn’t have to care about those
Who sleep out in the cold everyday.
Privilege had the time to pen this down
She didn’t have to pray for her loved ones
To be safe and sound.
Privilege has a top-notch phone
And a great wi-fi connection
And so today she sat on her desk
To post one of her creations.
As funny and sad as it may sound
Out of all the things privilege is
She isn’t self aware enough.
